Who is Stephen Douglas?
Senator Stephen Douglas was a leading northern democrat that ran against Abraham Lincoln to keep the senator seat in Illinois.
Nullification Crisis
South Carolina, led by John C. Calhoun, opposed federal tariffs and asserted the right to nullify federal laws they deemed unconstitutional.
