  • Had the same two lenses + were like two little telescopes

Robert Hooke in 1665:

  • This was the first Microscope that had a screw to help it focus
  • Before this people had to move the specimen to get it in focus

Van Leeuwenhoek in 1674:

  • His Microscopes were very small
  • They were made up of two flat and thin metal plates pushed together

A

Jospeh Jackson Lister in 1826:

  • He made an achromatic lens which made up for a distortion called “chromatic aberration”
  • ^happened due to diff wavelengths of light diffracted at diff angles
  • His new lens made the coloured edge disappear

Ernst Abbe in the 1860s:

  • Introduced the use of a condenser to give STRONG + EVEN lighting
  • Made great improvements to the design of Microscopes

  • Invented the FIRST ELECTRON microscope
  • This had a much higher resolution than the light Microscopes
