Unit 1 - Light, TEM, SEM Ad + Disad Flashcards
1
Q
Light Microscope Advantages
A
- Gives good detail
- Can observe living cells
- can be used in many areas e.g. Education, The medical sector
- Gives a quick diagnosis
2
Q
Light Microscope Disadvantages
A
- Poor resolution of 0.2Mm due to long wavelength of light
- Low magnification of up to 1500X
- Poor surface view
- Very thin sections needed for light to pass through
3
Q
TEM Advantages
A
- Very powerful magnification of 50 000X
- Images are high quality and detailed
- can see the very small organelles
- High resolution due to short wavelength
4
Q
TEM Disadvantages
A
- Images are black + white
- Only produces 2D images
- You CANNOT use living organisms
5
Q
SEM Advantages
A
- Produces 3D images
- Can see the surface of cells
- Produces colour images
- 10X better than Light Microscopes
6
Q
SEM Disadvantages
A
- Risk of being exposed to radiation
- CANNOT see inside of cells
- Low resolution compared to TEM
