Unit 1 List 1 Graphing Flashcards
Observation
an act or instance of noticing or perceiving and the acquisition of information from a primary source
Data
the smallest units of factual information that can be used as a basis for calculation, reasoning, or discussion
Variable
any factor, trait, or condition that can exist in differing amounts or types
Precision
how close measurements of the same item are to each other
Accuracy
how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value
Predict
a rigorous, often quantitative, statement, forecasting what would be observed under specific conditions
Infer
the process of drawing conclusions based on evidence and reasoning
Independent Variable
the variable you manipulate, control, or vary in an experimental study to explore its effects
Dependent Variable
what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment
Line Graph
a graphical display of information that changes continuously over time
Bar Graph
a type of graph in which each column (plotted either vertically or horizontally) represents a categorical variable
Pie Graph
a type of graph that represents the data in the circular graph
Scatter Plot
uses dots to represent values for two different numeric variables
