Unit 1 Lesson 7 : Kinds Of Variables And Their Uses Flashcards
A measurable characteristic that changes in value and is anything that may assume varied numerical or categorical values
Variable
Anything that can affect or change the results of the study
Variables
Properties of characteristics of some event, object, person that can be assigned with different values or amounts
Variable
Kinds of variables (2)
Independent and dependent variables
Outcome variable
Dependent variable
Cause variable
Independent variable
Is brought about by the changes made by another variable otherwise called as the independent variable
Dependent variable
Is the one being manipulated and is responsible for causing changes to another variable identified as the dependent variable
Independent variable
When conducting studies, researchers must also be aware of the existence of other variables that may affect the study being conducted(3)
Control variable
Intervening variable
Extraneous variable
These are the variables that are held constant in a study. They are not being changed/manipulated
Control variable
These are also known as mediating or moderator variables. These are variables that link the gap between independent and dependent variable
Intervening variable
These are variables that if not controlled, can affect the outcome of the study. These variables are not the independent variable, they are outside of the scope of the study. Thus, as researchers, you need to control them so they will not affect the result of your study
Extraneous variables
