Q

Heterogeneous Mixture

Homogeneous Mixture

A

A mixture that does not have a uniform composition. (You can see the different parts)
Examples: salad and trail mix

A mixture where the substances are evenly spread throughout (You can’t see the different parts)
Examples: salt water and air

Q

Suspension

Solution

Colloid

A

A mixture where the particles are too large to stay mixed without being stirred or shaken. The particles settle out

A mixture where one substance is dissolved in another substance

The particles are small and do not settle out quickly

Q

Methods to separate mixtures

A
  1. Filtration - using a filter to separate solids from liquids
  2. Distillation - separating substances based on their boiling point
  3. Evaporation - removes a liquid from a solution by heating and leaves the solid behind
