Unit 1 Lecture 2 Flashcards
Hip joint capsule is?
Strong/ dense and contributes to stability
The hip joint capsule consists of
–intracapsular femoral neck
–extracapsular greater and lesser trochanters
What 2 sets of fibers are found in the capsule of the hip joint?
Longitudinal fibers (superficial)
Circular fibers ( zona orbicularis)
Which part of the hip joint capsule is thickened?
Anterior/superior
Proximal attachment of the hip joint capsule?
Around the acetabulum
Distal attachment of the hip joint capsule
Intertrochanteric line (anterior)
Intertrochanteric crest (posterior)
What lies within the hip joint capsule?
Neck of the femur
What artery do the perforating arteries come from?
The profunda femoral artery
What 3 branches come off the lateral femoral circumflex artery?
Ascending branch, transverse branch, descending branch
Where does the femoral artery become the popliteal artery?
At the adductor hiatus of the adductor magnus
What are the branches off the popliteal artery?
Superior medial genicular.
Superior lateral genicular a.
What are the borders of the femoral triangle?
Medial border = adductor longus
Lateral border=Sartorius
Superior border = inguinal ligament
What is the floor of the femoral triangle?
Pectineus
What nerves provide sensory innervation to the hip?
Femoral N
Obturator N
Sciatic N (through N to Quadratus femoris)
*occasionally superior and inferior gluteal nerve from the sacral plexus
What are the 5 bursae at the hip?
Obturator internus
Obturator externus
Trochanteric
Gluteofemoral
Ischial bursa
