Define the activity: the problem or activity that needs to be performed and the patient’s status
Legality: Against regulations or state regulations?
Practice: Do you have evidence to support what you are doing within safe nursing care (look at NQAC)
Institutional Policy: Is it prohibited or permitted by the policies in place?
Safety/Competencey: Is it consistent with the training provided in a program or CEs. Will it be documented and be safe to perform at that moment? What things will you need to safely complete the task? What will the outcome be if this is performed?
Accountability: Would experienced nurses perform this? are you able to accept the repercussions?

Q

How is the nurse-patient relationship impacted by prof. boundaries, therapeutic communication, and social media

A

Communication can impact how something is perceived by the patient. This is why it’s important to be mindful of how your speaking to the patient and to use therapeutic techniques such as active listening, and addressing the patient. Boundaries could impact the relationship because while the patient may want a certain thing, the nurse might not be able to do that based on scope or policies. Social media can influence what the public thinks nurses do and act, giving a false reality.
