Unit 1 - Homeostasis And Feedback Mechanism Flashcards
The state of balance in the body; self-regulating process to maintain stability
Homeostasis
Components of Feedback Loops
Stimulus, receptor, relay
something in the environment that causes change
Stimulus
cells or tissues that receives stimulus
Receptor
a transmitter of message via nerves or hormones or both to the effector
Relay
three components of relay
Receptor, integrator, effector
A process of nervous and hormonal regulation by which the body maintains levels. It is done to either increase or lessen the change in the system.
Feedback mechanism
2 Types of feedback mechanism
Positive & negative
the process when the receptor detect change and initiate response that will go against the change.
•Reverse
•Reduce the change
•“bringing back again”
Negative feedback
the process by which stimulus causes a response which will increase the stimulation
•“Intensifies”
•“promotes further change”
•Stops only when stimulus is removed
Positive feedback
