Respiratory System Flashcards
Responsible for exchange of gases.
Respiratory system
Phases of Respiratory
External (blood-air) and Internal (blood-cells)
Parts of Respiratory System
Nose, Pharynx, Larynx, Trachea, Lungs
Internal part in the skull above the roof of the oral
cavity; external part protruding from the face
Nose (butas a.k.a nares - posterior & anterior)
Serves as passageway into respiratory and digestive tracts
Pharynx
Divisions of Pharynx
Naso, Oro, Laryngo pharynx
behind the nose with four opening, two auditory or Eustachian and two posterior nares
Nasopharynx
behind the mouth with one opening, filtering from the oral cavity
Oropharynx
behind the pharynx with two openings, into the larynx and into the esophagus
Laryngopharynx
Box-like cartilaginous structure located just below the pharynx
Larynx
Larynx is consists of:
(TECA)
a. Thyroid cartilage or “Adam’s apple”
b. Epiglottis or “lid cartilage”
c. Cricoid or “signet ring” cartilage
d. Arythenoid or “pyramid shaped” cartilage
2 types of vocal cords:
False (folds-mucus lining), true (fibro elastic bands)
Cartilaginous tube; for passageway of air, to and from the lungs
Trachea
Cone-shape organs which completely fill the pleural spaces, Covered by visceral pleura
Lungs
Structures associated with lungs:
Bronchi, bronchioles, alveolar, alveoli
