Interpersonal Roles - Figurehead, Leader, Liaison
Informational Roles - Monitor, disseminator, spokesperson

Relational Skills / Conceptional Skills / Technical Skills
Relational - Skills for interaction with others and motivating them
Conceptual - Capability to understand complex issues and underlying causes and to solve problems with broad implications
Technical - Ability to apply job-specific skills and knowledge
Stakeholder’s Perspective of OB
Includes owners, employees, customers, lenders and suppliers, governments, community, society, and any individual that organization affects or is influenced by. Stakeholder’s perspective means thinking about all people who will be affected before making a decision.
Organization-Specific Responsibility (OSR) / Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) / Environmental, Social, Governance Differences (ESG)
OSR - organizations focus on one particular stakeholder group and one particular form of well-being
CSR - organization acts in a way that protects and improves the welfare of multiple stakeholders
ESG - organizations commitment to have positive and sustainable social and environmental impact
Sustainable OB vs. Conventional OB
Sustainable - Multiple forms of well-being, broad range of stakeholders, short-term and long-term success
Conventional - Material or financial well-being, narrowed range of stockholders, short-term success
Frederick Taylor & the Gilbreths
Frederick Taylor - Taylorism. Determined the best designed tool for a specific task. Increased effectiveness by evaluating and establishing a work process for employees to follow
The Gilbreths - Studied how to reduce time and motion in the workplace
Hawthorne Plant Experiment
Tested the effectiveness of good lighting making employees more productive. Found that productivity had nothing to do with lighting, but rather had more to do with special attention from managers.
Belief Era - Institutionalization
Organizations develop a distinct character and structure over time. Institutionalized social norms and others control people’s actions by pre-set patterns of behavior.
Sustainability Era - Ecological / Societal / Holistic
Ecological - Organizations must take greater account of their impact on the natural environment
Societal - Maximizing profitability and productiveness takes a toll on physical and emotional well-being. Need to be aware of this.
Holistic - Beyond material success, people are increasingly acting with regard to less tangible concerns such as aesthetics and spirituality
Valuing Diversity and its benefits, surface level/internal
