Why did Athens establish a democracy?
To prevent tyrants (people who take power by force)
Define a monarchy, aristocracy, and a limited democracy.
monarchy- government ruled by one person
aristocracy- small ruling group
limited democracy- government run by the people
How did Pericles contribute to Athens?
Participated in a direct democracy (established to prevent monarch rule)
Introduced fixed salaries to public officials, juries, and the legislature
How did Greece contribute to modern democracy?
Introduced the legislature Limited the power of government Included the citizens in government Juries Salaries for public officials
Why did Rome establish a republic?
Preventing one man from gaining too much power or allowing a tyrant to take control
Describe a republic
A government with elected officials that have power
Citizens (plebeians) have the Senate write down laws
How did Justinian contribute to Roman Law?
Roman Law- the right to face your accuser and offer a defense
Justinian’s code revised Roman’s Law for many years

Christians believe Jesus is the son of God

How did Israelites differ from many people?
The Israelites were different from other people because they were monotheistic. other cultures like the romans and greeks worshipped many gods.
How did Christians fulfill their covenant with god?
Love for humankind
What did Judaism and Christianity believe?
Regulate moral behavior through the Bible/Torah
