Unit 1: Comparing animal & plant cells Flashcards
Similarities
Both animal & plant cells have
1. Cell membranes
2. Cytosol/Cytoplasm
3. Nucleus
4. Mitochondria
Cell Membranes
Cell membranes separate the outside and inside of the cells
They control what goes in and comes out
Cytoplasms
Inside of cell that is jelly like and contains the cells parts which are called organelles.
Organelles
The cell parts
each organelle has their own function in the cell
Mitochondria
Organelle that breaks down sugar.
The process of breaking down sugar releases energy the cell uses
Nucleus
Organelle that contains a cells genes
Differences
Plant cells have a cell wall and chloroplasts
Cell wall
Extra layer outside the cell membrane
It provides structure for the cell and makes it stiff and rigid
Chloroplasts
Organelles that carry out photosynthesis which makes food (sugars) that the cell needs to live
