Unit 1: Cell parts & their functions Flashcards
What are some animal cell parts?
- Cell membrane
- Cytoplasm
- Mitochondria
- Nucleus
Cell Membrane
separates the inside of the cell from the outside environment.
regulates what comes into and out the cell
Cytoplasm
Jelly-like substance that contains the inner cell parts
What are the parts contained in the Cytoplasm called?
Organelle
What are Organelles?
Organelles are small compartments in the cell that have different structures and functions.
Mitochondria
jelly bean shaped.
energy producing factories
use chemical reactions to break down sugar molecules in order to produce/release energy.
Nucleus
Information database
Contains genes
Genes are special instructions the cell uses to carry out its functions.
Chloroplasts (Organelles in plant cells)
Plants carry out photosynthesis.
Chloroplasts are responsible for photosynthesis to produce sugars for plants to use as food.
