Unit 1 Bible Quotes Flashcards
“There is no Jew nor Greek, no Slave nor Free, no Male nor Female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus”
In some rare situations like when somebody works for you then a Christian then may believe they are a higher class than them.
The majority of Christians believe that equality is the norm and that they should treat others equally.
Although they believe in equality - sometimes there is some form of sexism - for example in the traditional Christian Family.
“The Head of a wife is her husband.” N.T
“Wives submit to your husband”
“To be a helper” Gen 2
Refers to Adam and Eve saying that the women should be the helper in the family.
Some Christians will take this literally and may believe that the women should literally be men’s helpers in the marriage.
“Be Fruitful and multiply” Gen 2
Have children, God told this to Adam and Eve and said that should “be Fruitful and Multiply”, some people may not physically be able to have children, may not have enough financials to support the life of a child or children.
This shows that although this is said as a Command in the quote as it says “Be Fruitful..” which shows that he is commanding humans to listen him, but not everybody is physically capable.
“What God has put together, let no man separate.”
Liberal Christians, like the Church of England may disagree with this as they believe that if a marriage suffers abuse within it then they should be able to divorce.
Roman Catholic Christians, do not believe in divorce and so they follow this very strictly. If people do separate, then they go through a process called annulment, which is the dissolvement of the marriage. There would be no proof of the previous marriage, they wouldn’t say that they would be re-married but just say that they are married.
