Describe the scope of health promotion
health promotion encompasses an individual, their family, community, population and environment. It promotes behaviors that lead to optimal health across a life span.
Describe the three levels of health promotion
Primary-prevention: optimize health to prevent illness in the healthy patients
Secondary-screening: Identify early stage of illness, initiate treatments.
Tertiary-restoration/disease management: prevent complications and minimize disability in the sick.
Describe when and how to apply health promotion to the context of nursing and healthcare
When? following an assessment: an assessment provides a basis for establishing a health promotion plan.
List some health promotion interventions
Education immunizations screenings nutritional health physical activity pharmacologic agents
Describe the U.S. preventative Services Task Force four levels of evidences (A-D)
Grade A- strongly recommends, net benefit is substantial
Grade B- recommends, net benefit is moderate
Grade C- No recommendations for or against, net benefit is small.
Grade D- recommends against, harms outweigh benefits
Discuss the importance of health professionals leading a healthy lifestyle
It is important for nurses to lead by example, if we want our patient to live healthy happy lives, we need to do the same.
