Unit 1 Flashcards
Quantitative
UNIT 1: Uses numerical values where arithmetic operations make sense
Categorical
UNIT 1: Places individual into one of several groups/categories
How do you access graphs on a calculator?
STAT PLOT
Bar Graph
UNIT 1: Categorical data ONLY
Dot Plot
UNIT 1: Categorical and quantitative, small data sets
Survey
UNIT 1: Select representative sample of the population, asks questions without influencing
Observational Study
UNIT 1: Observe/investigate a representative sample, find pre-existing circumstances
Experiment
UNIT 1: Do SOMETHING to representative sample, don’t change anything else
Histogram
UNIT 1: Quantitative data ONLY, bars usually touch.
- larger data sets
- break up range by using own judgement
- display count (“frequency”) in each class
Stemplots
UNIT 1: Quantitative data ONLY
- separate into stems
- provide a key!
SOCS
UNIT 1: Shape
- symmetric vs skewed, whichever way the hump is its skewed the OPPOSITE way
- uniform
- “approximately normal”
Outliers
- 1.5 * IQR
Center
- mean: add #’s, divide by amount of #’s
- median: use if its skewed
** use STAT, then 1-vers
Spread
- use IQR
- range if you dont have IQR
CONTEXT
5-Number Summary
UNIT 1: - Minimum
- Q1 (25th percentile)
- Median
- Q3 (75th percentile)
- max
Q1-Q3 = “interquartile range”
IQR
UNIT 1: IQR = Q3 - Q1
1.5 * IQR
UNIT 1: Q1 - (1.5 * IQR) -> lower than this # = outlier
Q3 + (1.5 * IQR) -> higher than this # = outlier
