West Nile
- Case is surrounding the blood and organ donor supply
- A girl died and her organs were split up among patients who needed them, Soon after the transplants got their surgery, most of the recievers started getting sick. Could have been a coincidence but was investigated. First break through was that the swelling of a mans brain which was caused by encephalitis which narrowed down the virus. One patient who recieved her heart had been in the hospital for a while before his surgery which led them to know that he got west nile sometime within his stay in the hospital. West Nile had been known to be transmitted through mosquitoes which would have been virtually impossible due to how hospitals are set up. The donor recievers got west nile from the accident victim who had gotten west nile from a blood transfusion during some of her hospital stay.
- With the use of surveys and cdc lab results, they were able to narrow down which blood donor possibly has west nile.
- This case caused for blood donators to be tested for west nile
