5 themes of geography
Place, human environment, interaction, location, movement, region
Place
What it’s like there, both the natural landscape and what life is like there.
Primary source
A source that was created during the time period of the source’s content. (a recent study)
Secondary source
A source that was created about an event after it happened.
Bias
A opinion or liking that affects someone’s judgement
Reliable
Able to be trusted or depended on. A source with true facts+info.
Location
Where you are
Absolute location
Your exact point on the globe, measured by latitude and longitude.
Relative location
Description of where someone is, using direction words.
Region
What makes the location unique. The people who live there have things in common.
Human Environment Interaction (HEI)
How people interact with the land.
Movement
How people, goods and ideas travel. Migration, travel, and communication
Political Map
Focuses on the state, and national boundaries of a place.
Physical Map
Shows the landscape features of a place.
Thematic Map
Focuses on a particular theme or special topic. i.e. a map only showing what futbol team is located where
Compass rose
A tool on a map that shows cardinal and intermediate directions.
Command economy
An economy where the gov. is in charge, controls what is to be sold, how much goods/services will cost, and how much to produce
Market economy
Producers are free to decide what to produce, and consumers are free to buy whatever they need and want.
Supply
The amount of something that is available
Demand
The number of consumers who want a certain supply
Opportunity cost
When you are making a choice between different things, you have to consisder the pros and cons, and make the choice with the most benefits to you
Scarcity
The limited amount of resources available
Profit
Is the financial gain received by selling something for more than it cost to make it.
