The study of the human geographic features

The art and science of making maps
How can studying Geography help people?
It helps us understand the world around us

How might a geographer study movement?
By looking at how long it takes from one thing to move from one place to another

By observing how people react to different environmental changes

What is the problem that all map share
They aren’t as accurate as a globe
Why might a geographer choose to use a map instead of a globe
Because it’s easier to carry around and transport.
How do geographers use satellites
To take accurate pictures of the Earth, so we can make accurate maps.

Degrees north and south

What does a political map show?
Shows major political features
Ex. Boundaries, major cities, bodies of water, highways, census data and election results
What does a physical map show
Major physical features
Ex. Mountain ranges and bodies of water
What might a thematic map show?
Focuses on a particular topic
Ex. Population density, rainfall and precipitation levels, vegetation distribution, and poverty
What does a reference map show?
Shows a mix of physical and human features
Ex. Natural features (mountains, rivers etc) and political data (highways/roads, towns/human made areas)
