Scientific method
- QUESTION/PURPOSE
- HYPOTHESIS: prediction based on observations.
- PROCEDURE/METHOD: conduct experiments to test the hypothesis.
- DATA COLLECTION: Gather and record data
- OBSERVATION/ANALYSIS: Analyze the data to determine if it supports the hypothesis.

Ethics of social sciences- famous unethical experiments #1
Learned helplessness, 1965
-The experiment used dogs and conditioned them to different treatment with shocks. This was to see if they can learn helplessness
-the experiment was unethical , no consent to the experiment, nor was there any debriefing. No peer approval.

The monster study, 1939
-It was a stuttering experiment that compared how children would react to positive and negative speech therapy.
-This was unethical, there was no informed consent from children, they faced lasting effects to their speech patterns afterwards. There was no debriefing.

Monkey drug trials, 1969
- Use of dugs on monkeys to understand the effects of addiction and drug use on humans.
-This was unethical because there was harm to the animals, and much more extreme than needed. No peer approval. Consent, and withdrawal from experiment

Stanford prison experiment, 1971
- examines the behaviour of individuals when placed into roles of either prisoners or guards.
-The prisoners and guards consented to the experiment, but were not told the extent of their role, Much psychological harm came to the subjects. It was not approved by other psychologists and was cut short due to the severe effects.
