Unit 1 Flashcards
interactions between different species are called?
Interspecific interactions
Predation
One organism kills and eats another
Herbivory
An organism eats another organism (who is a plant)
Symbiosis
Close interactions between two different species
Mutualism
Both sides benefit
Commensalism
One organism benefits, other is unaffected
Members of same species in same area
Population
All organisms in an area
Community
All living things an an area
Biotic
Non living things in an area
Abiotic
What does an ecosystem include?
All biotic and abiotic factors in a region
Biome
Community of plants and animals living in and adapted to a certain climate. These biotic and abiotic factors can be similar in different places. (Ex. Desert biome)
Tropical rainforest biome
High temperatures, high rainfall, high biodiversity
Temperate deciduous forest biome
Between 30° and 60° latitudes, well defined seasons, trees shed leaves in winter
Temperate rainforest biome
Between 30° and 60° north and south of the equator, mild winters and evenly distributed rainfall throughout year
