Clean Air Act
Passed in United States in 1963, intended to reduce and control air pollution nationwide
Clean Water Act
Passed in United States, first created in 1948 but mostly expanded in 1972, made it unlawful to dump waste into clean water without a permit
Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)
Signed by 184 parties in 1973 to ensure international trade of plant and animals does not threaten their survival in the wild
Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA)
Enacted in 1980 and amended in 1986 in the United States, designed to clean up abandoned hazardous waste sites and prevent more hazardous waste from being dumped
Montreal Protocol
International treaty agreed on in 1987 and put into force in 1989, protects ozone layer by phasing out production of substances responsible for ozone depletion
Endangered Species Act
Implemented in United States in 1973, provides framework to conserve and protect endangered and threatened species and their habitats
Safe Drinking Water Act
Implemented in United States in 1974, established minimum standards for tap water and for protecting underground sources of water
Delaney Clause of Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act
Implemented in United States in 1958, puts bans on food additives and pesticides that are known carcinogens
Resource Conversation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
Implemented in 1976 in United States, governs disposal of waste, set national goals for for protecting people and the environment from hazards of waste disposal, conserving energy and natural resources, reducing the amount of waste, and ensuring the management of waste in an environmentally sound manner
