What is enviornmental Determinism?
the idea that physical envionrment effects human behavior EX: people in hotter climate areas are generally lazier becuase of weather
Scale of Maps
ratio of distance on map to corresponding distance on ground
Vernacular/perceptual region
based around ones opinion and associations. ex: south?
Formal Region
economic, political, social, or enviornmental. Well defined boundaries EX: cities, towns, states, or countries
Functional Region
organized around centrale node and relationship based around economics, travel, or communication EX: Metropolitan areas, school districts, etc.
sustainability
the use of earths resources in ways that ensure availiabilty in future. EX: water conservation, careful cutting down trees.
Time space compression
theory that places distances are “shrinking” due to technological and communication advancements.
Distance Decay
The further you are from someone the less interactions, the closer, the more! (example: extended vs close family)
