seeing the general in the particular (sociologist recognize that society acts differntly on various categories of people.
what is global perspective and what are the 3 categories?
it is the study of larger world and our societies place it in 3 categories being high-income countries, middle-income countries, and low-income countries.
what are the 4 things sociological perspectives can do?
1) help us asses the truth of common sense
2) help us see the opportunities and constraints in our lives
3) empowers us to be active participants in our society
4) helps us live in a diverse world.
what are Comte’s three stages of society?
1) theological stage
2) metaphysical stage
3) scientific stage

structural-functional approach
a framework for building theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability.

manifest functions (the recognized and intended consequences of any social pattern) and latent functions (the unrecognized and unintended consequences of any social pattern)

any social pattern that may disrupt the operation of society
social-conflict approach
a framework for building theory that sees society as an arena of inequality that generates conflict and change.
gender-conflict approach
a point of view that focuses on inequality and conflict between women and men.
