What are Earth’s layers?
Inner Core Outer Core Lower Mantle Mantle Upper Mantle Crust (continental and oceanic)
What are Convection Currents?
The gooey magma in the mantle is heated, it rises and cools near the surface, then drops.
What causes tectonic plates to move?
Convection Currents
What is the theory of continental drift?
The movement tectonic plates caused by convection currents.
What prooves Pangea?
All the continents fit together like a puzzle piece, glacial scratching, mountain scratchings, animal and plant fossils found on continents where they wouldn’t have been able to survive/live.
Why do earthquakes occur?
Earthquakes happen when tectonic plates rub against one another. (Transform)
How do ocean ridges form?
Formed by plates separating.
What is Divergent?
When plates part (separate, divide) - seafloor spreading and goes back under.
What is Convergent?
When plates come together (forms mountains or causes landslides)
What is a caldera?
formed when slopes of a volcano collapse, the magma chamber is empty. The Caldera fills with water forming a lake.
How are ocean trenches created?
When the plates converge and the older plate is pushed beneath the other plate and into the mantle.
What is Transform?
When the plates rub together side by side.
