2) a bad history leading to mistrust and animosity exist toward those in the “helping” professions (Ex. social work)

The approach must be flexible to incorporate a variety of healing methods and must avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.

It must be based on the wants of the Aboriginal people and give power to their communities.

The Nechi Institute is a good example of a training organization that incorporates both traditional Aboriginal and mainstream standards.
