Onomatopoeia is the use of words that create the sound representing.
By using onomatopoeic words the writing is bought to life through the sound.
What is sibilance and the effect?
Sibiliance is when the “s” constant is repeated in 2 or more words.
Silbilance reinforces softer sounds to impart a whispering or gentle tone and rhythm.
What is Alliteration and effect of it?
Alliteration is reapeating a constant sound at the start of 2 or more words.
Repeated consonant sound create a tone and rhythm which connects the subject matter.

Assonance is the repetion of vowel sound across two or more words.
It creates a tone

Metaphor is directly comparing one thing to another.
It increase readers understanding of the matter by comparing it to something the reader familiar with.
What is personification?
Personification is giving human qualities to non-human things.
By using human qualities we can relate more to the image.
What is symbol?
An object or word that represent another idea through its connotation.
Allusion?
A brief, indirect reference to a generally known person, place or literacy work.
What is Euphemism?
Euphemism is a polite way to express something distressing, impolite or distasteful.
It avoids bluntness and gives impression that the speaker is sensitive to the situation.
What is compound adjectives?
Compound adjectives is two words joined by a hyphen to supply and immediate description.
What is neologism?
Newly created or coined word.
What is Portmanteau?
Portmanteau is word formed by blending part of 2 words.
Jargon?
Jargon is technical terms related to specific field or expertise.
It will assume that the reader will be familiar with the terminology.
What is a pun?
A play on word.
What is a personal pronoun and the effect of it?
Personal pronoun is a pronoun that replaces a name to personalise a POV.
Emphasize a personal POV.
Use of “we” or “us” as an inclusive pronoun. “they” are exclusive and distancing pronoun.
What is listing?
List of items with commas or colon.

Command or directive in verb form.
what is a predicate?
A predicate is a verb.
Simple sentence?
Simple sentence needs a predicate (verb) and a subject.
Compound sentence?
Compound sentence is made up of 2 simple sentences that are joined together by a conjunction.
Complex sentence
Made up of one dominat clause and one subordinate clause (which relies on the dominant clause to make sense).
Loose sentences?
Main clause at the begging
Periodic sentence?
Main idea at the end, making build-up tension.
Parallel structure?
Repetition of word order in a sentence.
Balanced sentence?
Two or more clauses of opposite meaning.
Minor sentence?
sentence missing a subject or a verb.
Juxtapostion?
the placing of contrasting ideas side by side to reinforce difference.
Parantheses?
Comments or modifiers inserted into the sentence.

How to identify the target audience in a text?
Look at the jargon or words used as it will assume the reader will know these terms and will not give explanation for it.

Oxymoron is joining 2 seemingly contradictory terms.
What is a paradox?
Paradox us a statement that might at first appear to be contradictory, but that may in fact contain some truth.
What is mood?
Mood is the atmosphere of the text, the overall feeling you experience as you read.
What is tone?
Tone is the feeling being expressed by the writer.
What is happening when the text is about expressing and reflecting?
The author is trying to express and reflect on life experiences.
When reflecting the author is looking backward to look forward.
What is happening when the text’s purpose is informing and explaining?
It’s when they state a point and explain.
They will present info in an engaging way.
What’s happening when the text’s purpose is evaluating and judging?
The author is explaining the worth of something.
What is happening when the purpose is to inquire and explore?
Introduce a problem and state a solution.
What’s happening when the purpose is to analyse and interpret.
Unpack reasons to why and how something is certain.

Persuade the reader to accept a position on the issue.
