What are the four types of leadership styles?
Paternalistic, laissez-faire, Authoritarian, Democratic
What is an autocratic leadership style?
- Where the leader makes all the decisions and does let other really contribute to them.
What are advantages of an autocratic leadership style?
They make decisions quicker as it’s only 1 person
Make decisions without any reference to others
What are disadvantages of an autocratic leadership style?
People may feel demotivated as they don’t get much of a say.
High degree of dependency on the leader
What is a democratic leadership style?
Where other people can have a say of their perspective to form a decision
What are advantages of a democratic leadership style?
There is more experience potentially so the decision may be better.
Persuade others things are correct
What are some disadvantages of a democratic leadership style?
The decision making process will take a lot longer to make due to more people making their say.
What is a laissez-faire leadership style?
Where the leader lets most decisions and how things are ran to other people in the business.
What are advantages of laissez-faire leadership style?
People may feel more motivated as it feels they have more power
There is a higher chance of creativity to potentially have due to it being open for people
What are disadvantages of laissez-faire?
There is no structure behind it so people may become frustrated and also confused on what to do.

What is a paternalistic leadership style?
Where the manager/leader is acting like a father figure to the workers
What are advantages of a paternalistic leadership style?
people feel more motivated as they have a good relationship with their leader
Believes in the need for decisions being made
What are the disadvantages of paternalistic leadership styles?
Employees may become more and more dependant of their managers to the point where they won’t be able to be independent.
