Understand The Concepts Of Negative And Positive Feedback Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the characteristics of a control system
A
- Stimulus
- Receptors - detect stimuli
Communication between afferent pathway:
- nervous system (action potential)
- endocrine system (hormones) - Control centre (hypothalamus)
Communication between efferent pathway - Effectors - causes change e.g sweat glands, muscle and kidney
2
Q
What is negative feedback?
A
-response in a way to reverse the direction of change
- most common form of feedback in physiological systems
3
Q
What is positive feedback?
A
Response in a way so as to change the variable even more in the direction of the change.
Used when rapid change is desirable
Example:
Blood clotting or ovulation
