Underframe Flashcards
What happens when the trip is activated? (3)
Trip reset switch illuminates red
Safety loop opens
Emergency brakes apply
How do you reset the trip after it has been activated? (3)
Stop train/0km
Turn reset switch to the right
Master handle into coast/0
Where is the iso cock for the whistle system
In a panel in cab left to the drivers seat
What does the towing unit do? (TU1)
Converts electrical signal to a pneumatic pressure and vice versa
What position must the towing cock be in all the time?
Open position
Towing unit modes
Read
Write
What does the towing cock do?
Reduces MR pressure when rescuing a Comeng to 700
Normal MR pressure in a Siemens?
850 - 1000 kpa
After turning the towing cock, what will flash throughout the whole train?
Uncouple light
Where are the padlocks for the park brake manual release?
Bogie 1 of a Motor car
What are brake resistor grids for?
ED braking, the dissipate the heat produced by ED brakes
What’s inside the traction container?
Traction inverter
Traction control unit (TCU)
What does the traction inverter do?
Converts 1500v DC to variable 3 phase AC for the traction motors
What does the TCU do? (2)
- tells the traction motors to power and braking
- Controls the operation of the holding brake
What is in the high voltage container?
- RH side HSCB and ground switch
- LH side brake control unit (BCU)
What does the BCU do?
Sends electrical signals to both brake modules to apply and release the brakes
What does the brake module do?
Converts electrical signals from the BCU to pneumatic pressure to apply and release brakes
What is inside the brake module?
- air suspension system cock
- bogie isolation cock
What happens when the compressor pressure switch is isolated?
Compressor runs continuously
What does the static inverter do?
Converts 1500v DC to 400v AC
What are the batteries used for? (4)
- raising the Panto
- step lights
- desk light
- initialising systems for start up
What does the Aux res supply?
Friction Brakes (EP)
What do the Surge res supply?
Air for the airbags
Where are the park brakes?
Wheels 3 and 7 of every motor and trailer
Where are the disc brakes?
On each wheel of a M and T
What brake is only on T cars
Disc
What does the compressor pressure switch do?
Monitors comp air and starts and stops the compressor
