5 phases of an undercover operation

A
  1. Planning
    - review background info
    - gathor information
    - selection of UC
    - proper equipment
    - funding
  2. initiation
    - continue to gather information
    - liasion with other agencies
    - brief UC on the current status of investigation, their role, and issue of entrapment
    - communication between UC and case agent
    - briefing to update all involved
    - Test all equipment
  3. Operational
    - Approach suspect and execute the plan
    - Gaining suspects confidence
    - Cover team protects UC, UC safety #1 priority
    - Case agent and UC establish safe areas
  4. Termination
    - end immediately if UC’s role is compromised
    - if situation becomes too dangerous
    - successful when all objectives have been met.
  5. Evaluation
    - briefing
    - what went right, what went wrong
    - UC prep for impeachment

A
  • Willingness to accept the role
  • current knowledge of how criminal element functions
  • gong rate of contraband
  • wise, patient , physical appearance
  • free of any notoriety
  • use real first name and fictitious last name.
