Identify critical information in operational planning for search warrants….
A
- flexibility and common sense
- plan around 5 elements, conduct pre-warrant investigation and write warrant plan
- Team leader selected, normally case agent.
- Info on violator and associates.
- Conduct surveillance prior to , get facts and info: violator, neighborhood, location.
- select team, specialists, how many agents, assignments.
- notify locals= professional courtesy or for help.
- What to search/seize, location of premise, time.
- equipment- vests, flashlights, transportation,radios
- I.D.- raid jackets, etc.
- Use of force policy
- conduct post warrant evaluation, lessons learned

- Knock and announce
- use of ruse may be beneficial if heavily barricaded
- try doorknob first
- upon entry, gain control of occupants and any weapons
- minimum of two officers to sweep.

- use cover for protection

- Enters with entry team
- search in pairs
- clockwise/counterclockwise method for searching
- search of person- warrant, consent or PC of hiding evidence
- no time limit, use good judgement, reasonable amount of time.

A
When you have reasonable suspicion that they are presently armed and dangerous

A
- prevent:
- harming officers

- interference with the search.

A
- After the area has been secured.
