Uncertainty Flashcards
1
Q
how can you reduce uncertainties in a titration
A
- replace measuring cylinders with pipettes or burette which have a lower apparatus uncertainty will lower the error
- in a burette reading :
make the titre a larger volume .
By increasing the volume and conc of the substance in the conical flask or by decreasing conc of substance in the burette
2
Q
how can you reduce uncertainty in measuring mass
A
- using a more accurate balance or larger mass will reduce uncertainty in weighing a solid
- weighing sample before and after passion and then calculating difference will ensure a more accurate measurement of mass added
3
Q
how can you find out if there’s a discrepancy in the result due to other errors
A
if the % uncertainty due to the apparatus < percentage difference between the actual value and the calculated value
4
Q
how can you find out there’s been errors by the sensitivity of the equipment
A
if the %uncertainty due to apparatus > percentage difference between the actual value and the calculated value
