RP3 - Investigation of how the rate of a reaction changed with temperature Flashcards
1
Q
what’s the equation used for this reaction between sodium thiosulfate and hydrochloric acid
A
Na2S2O3 + 2HCl => 2NaCl + SO2 + S + H2O
2
Q
what’s the typical method used
A
- measure 10cm3 of 0.2moldm3 hcl and 10cm3 of sodium thipsulfate in separate clean measuring cylinder . Pour solutions in separate boiling tubes
- Choose a temp to investigate use water bath to get the two solutions to that temp by placing the boiling tubes in the water bath
- place flask on centre of large cross
- add sodium thiosulfate to flask
- add hcl and start stopwatch and swirl to mix
- stop clock when cross disappears and note the time
- repeat experiment for four more different temp
