Unbalanced Forces and Acceleration Flashcards
Hooke’s Law + Obeyed By:
The extension is directly proportional to the force applied.
- Metal Springs, metal wires
Elastic Stretching
Returns to its original length after deformation
Plastic Stretching
Permanently deformed
-Will not return to its initial length
-Limit of proportionality
Force, mass and acceleration:
F(N) = m(kg)a(m/s^2)
Vector Vs Scalar
Vector: Direction + Force
Scalar: Force Only
Vector Quantities:
Displacement, Velocity, ACCLERATION, Weight
Scalar Quantities
Distance, Speed, Density Mass
Friction:
A force that opposes motion
Terminal Velocity
Object Falls, Low air resistance, Weight causes large resultant force
As object speeds up, air resistance increases, eventually =as weight force
Hence, forces balanced, no resultant force
Object no longer accelerates, reaches constant speed
