Un peu de section 2 Flashcards
Die casting - why?
Huge number of complex parts, brilliant finish but erm.. I’d need a factory… low tolerance (very accurate)
Draft angles 2 (inc. 1 property of vacuum forming)
Tapered sides/draft angles to get out of mould
Vacuum forming has low accuracy
Ease of maintenance
- running costs (batteries etc)
- cleaning access
- replacing parts cost/availability
- repairing general public / expert
Safety symbols found on products
CE BSI
Rigorous testing, meeting safety standards before sold to public
Sand casting 3
To make a small no. Of tough metal parts requiring a lot of finishing
Rounded corners & draft angles
Why use CAD (3)
- can test for aesthetics when fully rendered
- Can be easily sent to the client
- alterations can be made quickly
- can see how parts fit together
Why sketch models:
- quickly check for sizes & proportions before further development
- allows the user to interact and give feedback
- refer to example in the question eg blender
Technology push
give a relevant example as well as the definition
3d printer drawback
Slow
Automated turning
Computer Numerical Control
Batches of cylindrical objects
Highly accurate & smooth finish
Knockdown fittings
Reduces manu costs
Allows flatpacking
Easy for consumer to assemble
Not as strong
Fillets
Fillets (rounded corners) to prevent tearing as it moulds
