A non-governmental organization is an organizaion made up of citizens that defend a cause in the public interest
What are the qualities of an NGO?
- Citizens in an NGO work on a voluntary basis
- NGOs work independently from the government making them a non-proft organization
- Can either be national (in one country)
- Can also be international (in more than one country)
What are the three roles of NGOs?
- To devote their efforts to international development
- To reduce the disparity in the distribution of the world’s wealth
- To promote social justice

What are four forms of action NGOs can take to accomplish their missions? explaina and give an example for each
- Information, protest, and mobilization campaigns
(informs the public of the situation in developping countries)

(pressures the gov’t or international organizations to get them involved in causes defended by NGOs) - Fundraising
(Allows NGOs to acquire financing to rpovide humanitarian aid in emergency situations & to implement different development projects) - Projects
