If you are unable to reach healthy vein tissue, and the infection reaches the liver, you will need to marsupialize the vein.
Marsupializing is taking the end of the vein and fish mouthing it out through the body wall to create drainage.
What is a common complication of marsupialization of umbilical veins?
Hernias at the site of marsupialization
