What is ultraviolet light?

Electromagnetic radiation between x rays and visible light

What specifically is being treated with UV therapy?
A
Dermatoses

How deep is UV light absorbed
A
First 1-2mm of skin, therefore physiologic effects are very superficial

What are the physiological effects of UV application
A
Increased cell metabolism,
May cause cell damage/death
Increased capillary permeability
Inflammation response

What should be done prior to UV therapy?
A
Skin should be tested first with minimal erythema dose (faint redness after 24 hours from treatment).
