ultrasound 4 Flashcards
Decibels, dopler effect and types of ultrasound scans
What are decibels (DB) ?
Decibels are the units responsible for measuring the difference between sound intensities, the sound wave produced by the transducer and the returning echo wave.
What is the doppler effect?
the difference between the frequency of sound as it leaves and arrives. When sound is coming towards you the frequency of the sound wave increases leading to a higher pitch/ when sound us moving away from you the frequency of the sound wave decreases leading to a lower pitch.
What is a A mode ultrasound scan?
Amplitude modulated scan which produces a graph showing the strengths of reflections
What is a B mode ultrasound scan ?
Brightness modulated scan which produces a 2D greyscale based on the strength of reflected sound echos according to depth
What is a M mode ultrasound
a motion mode scan that shows motion and video images
What is a Doppler scan?
measurement of the change in sound frequency to show the speed and direction of blood flow
