When can it be used?

A

> 96 - 120 hours after unprotected sex.
Within 5 days of unprotected sex that occurred during 5 days before estimated ovulation.

30 mg
Vomiting < 3 hours = replacement dose

A

Repeated use within the same menstrual cycle

Patient conselling

A

Reduces effectiveness of regular contraceptives
Use additional barrier protection
- COC = 14 days (16 if Qlaira)
- POP = 9 days (14 if parenteral)
Wait 5 days before startign regular hormonal contraception OR using levonorgestrel as EHC

Counselling

A
  1. Next period may be early/late
  2. Barrier protection until next period
  3. Lower abdominal pain = see GP (to rule out ectopic pregnancy)
  4. Abnormal periods = take a pregnancy test (must ne at least 3 weeks after unprotected sex)
