UL-Objective Assessment Flashcards
Observation of patient
→Informal & formal observation
= in dynamic % static situations, quality of mvts, posture, facial expression
What should I observe from an ant view?
- deviation from medial line
- Shoulder position (level)
What should I observe from a lateral view?
- chin poked posture ?
- Cx & Thx kyphosis
- Humeral head position
What should I observe from a posterior view?
- Position of scapula
Possible causes of elevated shoulder
RCS
Frozen shoulder
What are the possible causes of a depressed shoulder?
Low postural tone
UT
What can cause a chin poked posture?
Impingement syndrome
What can indicate the humeral head position?
Post capsule tightness (head ant & sup translated)
What does indicate a painful arc during abduction?
Impingement syndrome
Observation : Flexion in OA
Good mvt but painful end ROM
or
Milder restriction of ROM
Observation: Rotator cuff dysfunction
Patient unable to elevate the arm actively
→ able to passively elevate arm
→ restricted ROM
Observation: frozen shoulder
Very restricted GHJ ROM
Patient lifting the arm moving at scapulothoracic joint
Observation: abduction in rotator cuff dysfunction
Unable to abduct the arm actively
Able in passive
Restricted ROM
/!\ might compensate by hitching the shoulder
Observation: abduction in OA
Good but
Decr. ROM
Observation: abduction in frozen shoulder
Might have an hitching shoulder
