UK's Evolving Physical Landscape Flashcards
What is metamorphic rock?
Rocks subjected to large amounts of pressure- limestone=marble
Where is metamorphic rock mostly found?
North Highlands (Scotland)
What is igneous rock?
When molten lava from a volcanic eruption solidifies- granite
Where is igneous rock found?

What is sedimentary rock?
Rock formed from sediment at the bottom of the sea
Where is sedimentary rock found?
The south and centre of the UK (highest amount of sedimentary rock then any other rock)
How has glaciation affected the UKs landscape?
10,000 years ago, the UK was covered in ice. Glaciers formed in the uplands forming U shaped valleys. The lowlands have a flatter surface and waste materials are left there so it is easily eroded as it is softer rock
