> Primary chamber of the UK legislature
Directly elected by voters
HOL
> Second chamber of the UK legislature
Not directly elected by voters
CONFIDENCE & SUPPLY
> The rights to remove the gov. & to grant or withhold funding
Also, informal coalition agreement where the minority partner agrees to provide these things in exchange for policy concessions
SALISBURY CONVENTION
HOL does not delay or block legislation that was included in the gov.’s manifesto
PARLIAMENTARY PRIVILEGE
Right of MPs or Lords to make certain statements within Parl. without being subject to outside influence, including law
PUBLIC BILL COMMITTEES
Responsible for looking at bills in details
BACKBENCHERS
MPs or Lords who do NOT hold any gov. office
SELECT COMMITTEES
Responsible for scrutinising the work of gov. (particularly of individual gov. departments).
