UI Design Flashcards
Which technique is used for evaluating a UI design requires real users or test subjects that fit the profile of real users?
usability testing
Is there a single direct measure for quantifying the absolute usability of a UI?
No
Can a software product have high usability despite the fact that it is difficult for some users to use?
Yes, as long as the users that can’t understand it are not part of the target market.
There are different factors that effect usability. The order in which these factors are addressed is important. Factor A might not make any difference unless factor B has already been satisfied. In what order should the following usability factors be addressed?
Correctness > Availability and Reliability > Ease of Use > Proficiency > Enjoyability or satisfaction
Which of the following is NOT a factor for determining usability? Simplicity Predictability Efficiency Extent to which user feels in control Maintainability Low error rate Familiarity
Maintainability
Does the mental model used to understand a system and to make predictions about how the system will work have to be 100% accurate for it to be useful in most situations?
No
Compare Newton’s laws of gravity with Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity. Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity is correct but unless you are dealing with speeds near that of light or immense gravity, Newton’s laws work for all practical problems.
There are no drawbacks to adding more explanatory text to a UI that might be misinterpreted.
False
Can dialog boxes be considered ineffective when they have too much information?
Yes
When should usability testing be performed? Assume your purpose for doing usability testing is to improve the usability of the software under development.
During the UI design phase
Give an explanation for why the iPad and other iOS devices are considered easy to use.
There is very little with the iPad and other iOS devices that is instinctive. They are easy to use because they have touch screens and provide good feedback which makes them easy to learn. Once learned, they become familiar.
The purpose of the thinking aloud technique used during usability testing is to get the user’s opinion on the design. (Here I’m using the word opinion to mean: an estimation of the quality or worth of something.)
False
You aren’t looking for another opinion during usability testing. You are looking to understand how someone takes in and processes the information. Ref: http://www.uxmatters.com/mt/archives/2012/03/talking-out-loud-is-not-the-same-as-thinking-aloud.php
