Q

Sex determination in hymenoptera

A

haploid (unfertilized) embryos become male diploid (fertilized) embryos become female - determined by the queen!

haploid only contain genes from their father -> 75% related to their sisters… so more related to their sisters than their own children, so it is more beneficial to help your sister have children rather than yourself as a male.
