Ugh I'm so tired, let's do something easy: the stupid upper arm Flashcards
How many of these fuckers do I have to remember?
Only 4, my friend. Only 4. (But wait until we get to that asshole the forearm).
What are the goddamn shitty ass, assing ass muscles?
Biceps brachii, brachialis, coracobrachialis, triceps brachii.
Any way to separate these muscles into groups?
Yep. The body isn’t stupid. There is an anterior compartment and a posterior compartment. The anterior compartment is a hog and has the biceps brachii, brachialis, and coracobrachialis. The triceps brachii is in the posterior compartment.
Let’s describe these muscles in other ways. Where is the biceps brachii?
Superficial to the other anterior compartment muscles.
Where is the brachialis?
Slightly lateral to the biceps brachii and inferior to the coracobrachialis.
Where is the triceps brachii?
It’s posterior to the other muscles. Remember?
Ok let’s get specific. Where the fuck does the biceps brachii attach?
Well there are two heads on that fucker. The short head (which is more medial, and also longer, like an asshole) starts at the tip of the coracoid process. The long head starts at the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula. They both distally attach to the radial tuberosity.
What about the stupid ass brachialis? Where does that asshole attach?
Brachialis goes from the distal anterior shaft of the humerus to the coronoid process and ulnar tuberosity of the ulna.
What about the coracobrachialis attachments? I hate it so much.
Tip of the coracoid process (like in the name) to the middle 1/3 of the medial humerus. Basically the coracobrachialis ends where the brachialis starts.
The triceps has to connect places, too. So where the hell does it do that?
Well, as the name suggests, the triceps has three heads. The lateral head starts on the promixal posterolateral humeral shaft. The medial head starts on the distal posteromedial humeral shaft. The long head goes up to the infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula. So the long head is the longest. Thank god something makes sense. And thankfully, they all distally attach to the same place: the olecranon process.
Yay, all done with that nonsense. Let’s do innervation shit. What innervates the anterior compartment muscles?
The musculocutaneous nerve. Easy, woo!
What innervates the triceps brachii?
The radial nerve. Because the triceps are so radical.
Anything weird going on with innervation here?
Yeah. The brachialis, for whatever the fucking reason, is innervated by both the radial and the musculocutaneous nerve.
What do the anterior compartment muscles do, in general?
They all flex. Remember that guy Brad in your old high school gym class who always cut all the sleeves off his Nike t-shirts? Brad probably spent a lot of time working his anterior compartment muscles in the bathroom mirror at home. And also probably in another room of the house that was probably his bedroom. Think about it…
What does the triceps do?
It extends shit. The long head extends the arm. All the heads extend the forearm.
