The muscles of the stupid ass scapula Flashcards
How many dumb scapula muscles are there?
6, just like the last deck of flashcards
What are the names of these ridiculous muscles?
Deltoid, Subscapularis, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Major, Teres Minor. Just try to remember those. Two Teres, two -spinatus. And then two other assholes.
How can I group those to remember them easier?
All of them except the deltoid are the rotator cuff muscles. Meaning they form a rotating cuff around the glenohumeral joint. Also you can remember them based on where they are positioned on the scapula. Supraspinatus and deltoid muscles are superior to the scapula; infraspinatus, teres major and teres minor are posterior; subscapularis is anterior.
Where is the Deltoid muscle exactly?
Do you even lift, bro? It’s superficial to the rest of the muscles and right on top of the glenohumeral joint.
Where are the stupid ass Teres muscles in relation to each other?
T. major is superficial and also slightly inferior to T. minor. Isn’t it a little weird that the minor muscles are often superior to the major ones? (Like the rhomboids?)
Where is the supraspinatus?
Supra to the spine of the scapula. Have you studied the bony landmarks of the scapula? Get on that! It will make this scapular muscle stuff a lot easier.
Where is the goddamn infraspinatus?
This one’s a doozy: Infra to the spine of the scapula. Which is also posterior on the scapula. And this little asshole is also superior to the Teres bros.
What about the subscapularis? Where is that jerk?
Well there is a subscapular fossa on the anterior side of the scapula. You better believe that this fucker is hanging out right there.
Ok, let’s get into everyone’s favorite bullshit: attachments! Where does the deltoid muscle attach?
The deltoid is an asshole. That said, it proximally attaches to the clavicle, acromion, and the scapular spine, and then it distally attaches to the deltoid tuberosity. That’s why it’s triangular shaped. 3 points of attachment to 1 point of attachment. Think about it…
Where does the Teres Major hang out?
Ok, maybe you can remember that the T. Major is a major kink from the last set of flashcards. It’s on the medial lip of the intertubercular sulcus distally. Proximally it’s hanging out on the bottom of scapula. Also known as the inferior angle.
Is Teres Minor in the same place as the Teres Major?
That would be great, wouldn’t it? Unfortunately T. Minor is a jerk. It goes from the lateral border of the scapula to the greater tubercle of the humerus.
What about the rest of the muscles? Where do they attach?
Hey guess what! We can do all these together. They all distally attach to the greater tubercle of the humerus. Isn’t that cute? And then if you think about their names and the bony landmarks of the scapula, they all span one of the three fossas of the scapula.
So the supraspinatus attaches to the supraspinous fossa.
The infraspinatus attaches to the infraspinous fossa.
The subscapularis attaches to the subscapular fossa.
So all the rotator cuff muscles attach to the greater tubercle of the humerus?
All except major kink. You know who that is… Teres Major, you dog you.
Can we do innervation for these bad boys?
Sure, you masochistic fuck.
Any common groups?
You better believe it, asshole. But they are random as hell. Deltoid and T. Minor are both innervated by the axillary nerve. The -spinatus muscles are both innervated by the suprascapular nerve. The subscapularis and T. Major are both innervated by the subscapular nerve, but subscapularis is innervated by the upper and lower branches and T. Major is innervated by just the lower one.
