UE Scapula/Shoulder/Upper Arm Flashcards
Pectoralis Major-Clavicular
Shoulder flexion, MR, horizontal ADD
Origin fixed - humeral ADD and MR
Insertion fixed - assists in elevation of thorax in force inspiration
Pectoralis Major-Sternal
Depress shoulder girdle and ADD humerus torward opposite iliac crest
Origin fixed - humeral ADD and MR
Insertion fixed - assists in elevation of thorax in forced inspiration
Pectoralis Minor
Origin fixed - tilts scapula anteriorly
Insertion fixed - assists in forced inspiration
May help with downward rotation or prevents upward rotation
Subclavius
Draws clavicle down and stabilizes joint
Latissimus Dorsi
Origin fixed - shoulder MR, ADD, and extension
Depresses shoulder girdle
Assists in trunk lateral flexion
Insertion fixed - assists in anterior and lateral pelvic tilts
Assists in lumbar hyperextension
Teres Major
Shoulder MR, ADD, Extension
Scapular internal rotation
Serratus Anterior
Origin fixed - ABD and upwardly rotates scapula
Holds medial border of scapula firmly against rib cage
Lower fibers my depress scapula and upper fibers may elevate
Best scapular upward rotator and posterior tilter
Helps externally rotate scapula
Supraspinatus
ABD shoulder
Stabilizes head of humerus in glenoid cavity
May assist with shoulder LR
Infraspinatus
LR shoulder
Stabilizes head of humerus in glenoid cavity
Scapular internal rotation
Subscapularis
MR shoulder
Stabilizes head of humerus in glenoid cavity
Prevents humeral anterior glide
Anterior Deltoid
Shoulder ABD, flexion and MR
Middle Deltoid
Shoulder ABD
Scapular downward rotation
Posterior Deltoid
Shoulder ABD, extension and LR
Scapular internal rotation
Upper Trapezius
Origin fixed - stabilization of scapula when ADD, upward rotation, elevation
Insertion fixed - extend, laterally flex, and rotate head and joints of cervical vertebrae so face turns to opposite side
Acting bilaterally - extends neck, accessory muscle to respiration, elevates and retracts clavicle
Middle Trapezius
Origin fixed - ADD scapula, stabilization when scapula is upwardly rotated
Acting bilaterally - externally rotates scapula and some upward rotation
